Foster Care Alumni of America
Foster Care Alumni of America (FCAA) is a national association of adult alumni of foster care and our allies--people who share our mission. FCAA connects the alumni community into a vibrant, supportive, permanent, extended family network for one another. Working with our allies, we use our expertise to transform policy and practice, ensuring opportunity for people in and from foster care. FCAA’s membership includes alumni and allies from all 50 states as well as a number of other countries. FCAA has chapters in 9 states (AZ, CO, ID, FL, MD, OH, TN, TX, and VA). Our members range in age from 18-88 and represent great diversity in age, gender, race, geography, and experience. FCAA and our members are highly sought-after trainers and public speakers, and very compelling advocates.
As alumni of the foster care system, we know intimately what it is like to be removed from our homes, to live in placements, to carry around all of the questions that come with our history. Therefore, we serve as role models and cultural translators for the next generations. We are a reminder that former foster children can overcome challenges, can navigate experiences--good and bad--and create meaningful and fulfilling adult lives. Because of our personal and professional experiences, we are uniquely aware of the challenges faced by young people in and from foster care. We know the changes that need to happen in foster care policy and practice because, as adults, we have had time to reflect on how changes could have made our journey through foster care smoother, less painful, and more successful. We know what makes foster care the best it can be.
Whether you are an alumnus or one of our allies, please join FCAA! Contact us to join and to get involved!
